MINDFULNESS WHILE FOOD SHOPPING, A YUMMY NETTLES PANCAKE RECIPE EVERYONE WILL LOVE AND DIVE INTO THE DEEP BEAUTY OF SMOKEY QUARTZ

Bulk and Farmers Market Shopping: How to be Prepared

One of the easiest places where I've seen people become more conscious about their plastic consumption is at the market. How many times have we all unconsciously put oranges in a thin plastic bag before putting it in our cart? It's literally the most needless use of plastic because oranges have their own natural casing! Once you start you can't unsee all the ways we over use plastic while grocery shopping.

When going to the market it's all about being prepared. I usually keep my wax canvas bag in my back seat with several cotton produce bags and maybe two glass jars for things like quinoa or rice. These items are often in the bulk section and much cheaper than buying them prepackaged version. On a practical note bulk shopping makes a very pleasing pantry because everything is in matching containers as opposed to a random assortment of packaging.

Feel free to DM or email me with  any questions about shopping at the farmers market or the bulk section of your local store. Once you do a few times you'll develop your own system and then it becomes an easy routine like anything else.

Infusions and Green Pancakes

A lot of the recipes that you see using spinach can easily be swapped out for fresh nettles. To be clear nettles are a weed that grows jus about anywhere and everywhere. Out here you might also see them seasonally at the Santa Monica Farmers Market on Wednesdays. If you decide to take a risk and go foraging please remember they sting and fresh nettles should ALWAYS be handled with groves. Before eating or drinking them you blanch them in hot water.

The below is my favorite nettles pancakes recipe that I make for the whole family. You'll end up making about 6 pancakes and they turn out bright green but honestly just end up tasting like banana and cinnamon.

Ingredients
1 cup oats
1 cup blanched nettles
1 ripe banana
1 egg
1/2 cup milk of your choice
2 tablespoons coconut oil
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt

Directions
  1. Mix all ingredients in a food blender. You will end up with beautiful bright green pancake batter.
  2. Cook your batter in a cast iron skillet with coconut oil. You can also use a non-stick skillet with light coconut oil.
  3. Lastly, add your favorite toppings to your green pancakes. I love adding peanut butter and elderberry glycerin to mine and Dakotas. The elderberry has many immune boosting properties, so I love to use it whenever I can.

Smokey Quartz

Smoky Quartz is a stone of deep commitment. She is filled with integrity, and is wanting the same fullness to reside in you. Smoky Quartz understands the beauty of leading a life with integrity as a priority, and that is all she wishes to bring to you. She is about loyalty, to the self first and foremost, and to those ideals and values that we hold dear as well. She is a gentle reminder of the commitment we hold towards the human race, Mother Earth, and our highest evolution. She is also a wonderfully grounding stone, offering us her protective presence.

Use this stone to bring grounding and protection to yourself and your space. Placing it near an entrance is powerful protection magic, as well as placing it near your bed while you sleep to ward off nightmares or insomnia. The energy of protection is sometimes the most calming thing.

RaMa TV

I usually love traveling and doing Cha Dao outside on the road. However, traveling with a little one has changed that a bit for me and I am not able to keep my tea and tea-ware as  safe as I'd like to. Since I generally have my computer with me, I've dove deeply back into me kundalini practice. My teacher Guru Jagat created an amazing platform that not only streams live classes and workshops from the Venice location. It's nice to sit and listen to the lecture portion of the class which is generally the first 30 minutes, then dive into Kriya. RaMa TV is a great tool for me to stay on top of my practice, which has been challenging to do on a regular basis with a toddler.
