Sustainability Tip

Earth To Alloy
CAM's Sustainable Jewelry Collection

As we look forward towards the beginning of spring summer, we felt most inspired by California’s coastal energy. Earth To Alloy is a collection rooted by earth's texture and grace, to serve as a reminder of the natural beauty that surrounds us. To absorb that energy into each piece, we journeyed back to basics by hand shaping each form from clay. From there we aligned our continued efforts in sustainability using recycled metals and locally sourced chain, fair trade beading and reclaimed stones.

Earth To Alloy is hand crafted from clay, then produced locally in los angeles with recycled metal materials. All chains and findings in this collection are produced by a small family business in Rhode Island. We feel it’s important to find small local business (just like ourselves) and help to support them as much as possible. In that same thread of conciseness, we sourced some beautiful eco-friendly and conflict free seed and gemstone beads. The wonderful team that we recently partnered with has made it their mission to make strides in fair trade as well as bettering the living conditions of many families in developing countries.

We love what we do and by building relationships with other hard working sustainable companies, we find that each piece of jewelry in our new collection holds highest vibrations of care and beauty.

Herbs in the Kitchen

Herbs to support you during time with family

My meditation teacher often says we have 48 hours with our family before all of our self work and growth fails us and we fall back into patterns from our childhood. Despite our best efforts. In my understanding family trauma or triggers that come up with your family often reside in the root chakra because that's where our essential needs are met. It is the chakra that always needs the most consistent attention and healing. It isn't until we have a strong root chakra that we can clear and cleanse our higher chakras. So what are the best ways to do that.

For the root chakra I like to visit the four nourishing herbs, Nettles, Burdock Root, Red Clover, Oat Straw. Making a simple infusion of hot water over any of these herbs is the easiest way. Below I will list where you can buy these from quality resources. I recommend throwing in 1/4 cup of the herbs into a quart size jar. Pour over hot water, seal the jar and leave on the counter until the morning. Sip the tea slowly in the morning when you first wake up. I consider it a moving meditation.

If you are doing traveling for the holiday you can also look at tinctures of any of these herbs. It's easy to travel with and take a few droppers each morning for support when dealing with triggering situations.

Lapis Lazuli

Lapis, to me, is one of the ultimate third eye stones. People often assume Lapis works with the throat chakra because of it’s color, but energetically, I feel it is more connected to the Third Eye. Lapis has this amazing way of opening and honing our third eye - expanding our intuition and psychic abilities. While this stone focuses on our natural intuitive gifts, she also works with our intelligent mind, increasing our inner wisdom and intellect. Our discernment will become cleaner and more precise when working with this stone, and while we may know ourselves, our needs, and our wants, more clearly with this stone, our understanding and omniscient perspective will also expand. This means, we will feel less inclined to hold attachments towards the end result of experiences or relationships, and we will be more understanding and forgiving of others when working with this stone. I also have experienced a deep connect with Ancient Egypt while working with this stone, which can be very powerful work.

Simple ways to honor your ancestors
and those not with us during this season

This will be my first Christmas without my Grandma Muffy who I was extremely close to. I think so often in our culture we don't have a way for honoring these souls that are woven into our daily life. So this holiday I wanted to share the simple way I do things daily and encourage you to try your own way of honoring during this season.

On the altar of my bedroom I have a place with a picture of my grandmothers, an offering cup of tea and a little area to burn incense. When I get up in the morning I will stand in front giving gratitude and love to the photos then light a small chunk of incense. If I haven't filled my offering cup in awhile I will also sit down in meditation and do that as well. I generally fill that once a week.

These are small things but sometimes I think small things that are easy to accomplish, where you give gratitude daily is a better way to go.

SIMPLE SWAPS TO MAKE YOUR KITCHEN MORE SUSTAINABLE, SHARING MY FAVORITE CHICKPEA MEALS AND JOURNEY DOWN A CLEARER PATH WITH CLEAR QUARTZ

Sustainable Kitchen: Easy Ways You Can Stock Your Kitchen with Reusable Products

I've figured out a lot of hacks to cut down on waste in my kitchen. Some were easier swaps than others for the DeLaney crew.
My first and easiest swap was a huge soap block from BYO Long Beach. We use this block to clean all our dishes. Many dish soaps have hidden toxins that you wouldn't want to use for children and frankly if I can’t use it for my kids why would I want to use it for myself. This block also lasts for months which is amazing. If you're more of a liquid person, we use See if you have a local refill place. I know you probably think you don't but you might be surprised.
My next swap challenge for the DeLaney crew was getting rid of using paper towels. Think about how mindlessly you go to grab and use a paper towel to clean up when you have a perfectly good dish towel sitting right there. Basically I just stopped buying them and purchased these two-ply cloth towels. With two babies we go through a lot, so we have two packs in the kitchen. Then I put a little bin on top of the washer where we can quickly throw the cloth napkin to be cleaned whenever we do laundry. It cuts down on so much waste, but I will warn you this swap can be a bigger adjustment for some.
My last favorite swap that I use daily is my wooden dish scrubbers. We have two different types, one is perfect for wide-surface dishes and the other is for narrow or hard to reach dishes (like bottles or cups).  These you can of course buy on Amazon but also I've seen them at just about every grocery store. For me this one is a bit more symbolic because it keeps you thinking about the things you use on a daily basis that are produced mainly with plastic. Word of warning with wood scrubbing products. You need to constantly make sure it dries out after each use. Wood is decomposable and will lose it’s bristles if there isn’t proper care.

Easy Crockpot Bulk Chickpea Recipe

An item you can often buy in bulk are chickpeas. I know they come in cans but you can get SO much more if you buy them in bulk and make them taste much better. This dish we are about to talk about it a favorite of mine and it’s super easy! Actually it's not really a dish but more of a base that you can do whatever you want with.
When using bulk dried chickpeas you need to just soak them overnight in water. No certain amount of water just make sure the water is double the depth of the beans because they will expand quite a bit. Soak overnight and drain in the morning. Place in crockpot with bone broth and cover. When choosing a bone broth you want something fresh if possible. Ideally in glass (of course). I also place Kombu in mine for extra nutrients however I haven't found this in bulk yet. This type of seaweed is packed with vitamin A, C, Iron, and most important for my family great for immunity.
Cook in your crockpot on low while you are away for the day. Just taste and turn off when they reach your desired tenderness.
How I enjoy them:
-Put in the oven for crispy chickpea snacks
-Over a salad
-Eat plain (This is usually how I like them)
-I've also seen people make them into little chickpea patties

Quartz Point with Rainbows

Crystal Energy:
Quartz is a natural amplifier. It amplifies all energies, really allowing us to become more aware of the subtleties around us. When using Quartz for specific intentions, the Quartz will amplify those intentions, giving all of its energy to that particular task. This is why Quartz is often used in grids and for healing, as it will do all in it's power to create the desired effects.

Uses:
Use this stone to amplify any intention or manifestation you are working with - hold this stone in your hands and ask it for assistance for creating what you desire. Quartz is also an amazing stone to amplify the energy of other crystals by placing them next to one another, in a grid or whatever way feels intentional to you. This will create a beautiful flow of energy between the two stones.  Quartz Point Crystal and energy information provided by the radiant Ashley Abbott. Monthly Ritual: Yoni Steaming

This past week when I posted in my stories about my postpartum ritual of Yoni Steaming it drummed up a lot of curiosity so I thought I'd add the information to this months newsletter.
The word yoni is a Sanskrit word for womb of vagina, so this is essentially a vagina steam you can perform at home. Although the steam I am doing currently is for postpartum care, this ritual isn't limited to mama’s. You can also steam prior and post moon cycle (period cycle). This ancient practice has helped women connect with their sacred center for healing and care for centuries.
Here are a few yoni steaming benefits:
- Helps to reduce pain, bloating and exhaustion in connection to our cycle.
- Aids in regulating irregular or absent cycles.
- Decreases old or stagnant blood that can be left from your previous cycle the color of your blood color gives useful information about our body.
- Speeds the healing process and shrinking of the womb postpartum.
- Assists with the healing of a vaginal tear, episiotomy, or C-section scar.
- Treats uterine fibroids, ovarian cysts, vaginal/yeast infections and works to maintain healthy odor.
- Assists with the healing of hemorrhoids.

Along with the physical benefits, yoni steaming also unlocks stored emotions and reconnects us to our body. Steaming is a relaxing ritual that uses water to open and clear our root chakra.
Here’s what you will need to steam:
  • Dry herbal mixture. For my postpartum mixture I am using lavender, chamomile, rose hips, uva ursi, witch hazel, plantain, and peppermint (you can also buy pre-made mixtures to treat specific conditions)
  • Water
  • Bowl
  • Towel
  • Toilet (I use my toilet as a yoni steaming chain often because it's easy to set up, its comfortable and when done I can flush it down)
Here's my easy home set up:
  1. Combine your herbal mixture with water into large cooking pot. Slowly bring the pot to a boil. You're basically making a huge pot of tea.
  1. Pour the boiling herbal mixture into a bowl that will easily rest into the base of your toilet.
  1. Rest the steaming hot bowl of tea in the base of the toilet bowl. Sit on the toilet as you normally would. Place a blanket over your lower half. This is important because it will help trap the steam. After you sit down the heat does increase a bit so be mindful not to overheat your vagina.
  1. Sit for 15-20min. For more resources please check out https://www.steamychick.com/

EASY WAYS TO BECOME A ZERO WASTE TRAVELER, MOOD BOOSTING HOMEMADE GINGER TINCTURE THAT I LOVE AND FIND YOUR SOUL CONNECTION TO FIRE LEMURIAN QUARTZ

How to be a Sustainable Traveler

Other than grocery shopping, travel for me is an area where it was easy to make a big difference in creating less waste. Bringing your own water bottle is an easy zero waste solution that feels familiar to most of us. With many airports adding refill stations, this solution not only reduces your waste but you also ends up saving money. For me, I end up saving a ton because of course I go through about 80oz of water on a given flight. That's a heck of a lot of money in plastic bottles. Airports can be expensive across the board so another solution is to bring your own food (little known fact...you can travel with as much food as you want just not liquids.) Bringing food cuts out a lot of the individual packaging waste. I prep all my food the night before, put it in my stainless steel or small glass containers. My carry-on is usually full of food and a book. I love bringing my own food while traveling, it makes my trip more comfortable to have my favorite snacks with me.

HOMEMADE GINGER ALE AND GINGER SYRUP

When I took my Herbalism Course with Gaia School of healing out here in California, I focused on making medicine the whole family could take using single herbs. One of my favorite ones I made was a ginger tincture that aids in settling an upset tummy as well as digestion. Not to mention if you need a little pick up, it can give you a real good boost. I love ginger!

What you will need:
8 oz Glass Jar
1/3 cup Dried Ginger
2/3 cup of Glycerin
Raw Honey

To make the tincture:
Fill 1/3 of the jar with dried ginger pieces and then top it with 2/3 glycerin (and water mixture). If you are using glycerin please remember it's 80/20 glycerin to water. Once you've put the mixture in your jar let sit for 6 weeks minimum in a cool dark place. Strain out the plant material so you just have the syrup left. Do not throw away the plant material because I have another plan for that! The syrup can be added to any sparkling soda to make your own ginger ale. Please remember that it will be a lot stronger medicinally than traditional ginger ale. This means if you're going for a strong taste with this type of syrup it may be very activating to your digestion.

Now with the strained plant material put in the blender with a good amount of high quality raw honey. I generally use it as a half/half since we are giving the plant material a second life. Blend the ginger and honey and pour into a new jar. You'll also let this sit for 6 weeks before using. However, this can chill in your cabinet to be added to tea anytime you want. The infusing ginger honey will only get stronger with age. Add to hot water for an amazing post dinner drink.

Feel free to email me with any questions or feedback. I would love to hear how this ginger tincture worked for you.

Fire Lemurian Quartz

Lemurian Quartz Crystal is a very specific variation of Quartz. These crystals are usually only found in Brazil, and have ridged “record keepers” along their sides. It is said that these stones were planted in the earth by the Lemurian people (Lemuria was an ancient civilization much like Atlantis). These stones are said to hold the wisdom and grace of Lemuria, with access to the Akashic Records and past lives. Lemurian Quartz also allows us to feel the concept of oneness in a way not yet realized. She is an amazing tool for remembering our connection to the divine and spirit, showing us the tremendous and infinite supply of energy and support we have available to us. This particular Lemurian Quartz has Iron and Hematite inclusions, making it slightly more grounding and energized than Clear Lemurian Quartz. This piece has a flavor of passion, creativity, and fire thrown in as well.

Lemurian Quartz is an amazing tool for past life and akashic records work. The ridges on this stone hold records of information. Rub the ridges in meditation and see what comes through. Beauty Ritual

As I've gotten older (and became a new mom) I've made a point to simplify my beauty routine. Sometimes I think we get so dependent on the ritual for self care. It becomes a chore. Thus, I've paired it down to essentials: a good cleanser and moisturizer… that’s it! I also have moved to only purchasing things in glass and with ingredients I know and understand. For several years now my cleanser has been this Masa & Olive face paste by Moon Fat. The masa acts as a gentle exfoliator which I love and the olive oil moisturizes so I don't even have to do that after my shower if I don't feel like it. This is an olive oil based product, so make sure these ingredients are okay for your skin. I’ve noticed that my skin loves olive oil based products, so these types of products make up the majority of my skin care routine.

Another product I use daily during the summer is the Calendula oil from Oshala Farms. It's the full flower (picked on their family owned farm) and infused in high quality olive oil. Calendula helps with rashes, burns, and scars (of which I have from a lifetime of acne when I was younger). It's healing, cooling and most importantly brightening.

I love when cost effective and natural beauty products go hand in hand.
